DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLE CARSHARING IN EUROPE: MOTIVES, CHALLENGES, AND PROSPECTS FOR BUSINESS PROCESSES
Abstract
The article examines the current state and prospects for the development of electric vehicle carsharing in Europe as one of the key instruments of sustainable urban mobility. The main economic advantages of electric vehicle carsharing are analyzed, including reduced maintenance costs, increased efficiency of vehicle use, and a lower environmental burden on the urban environment. The key factors stimulating market development are identified: government support, municipal preferences, digitalization of services, and changes in consumer behavior, especially among young people. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of the problems and challenges facing the industry, including high capital costs for purchasing electric vehicles, insufficient development of charging infrastructure, regulatory fragmentation among EU countries, and operational difficulties in fleet management. The conducted SWOT analysis made it possible to systematize the strengths and weaknesses of the market, as well as to identify opportunities and threats for the further scaling of the electric vehicle carsharing business model. As a result of the study, it was established that the integration of carsharing into Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) systems, the development of smart city infrastructure, and the improvement of battery technologies create the prerequisites for transforming electric vehicle carsharing into a dominant format of urban mobility in Europe by 2030–2032.
